Booking

At Ki Surf School, I’ve chosen to believe in exchange, sharing, and keeping one’s word. Here, it’s not an algorithm or an automated platform that takes bookings, but your surf coach.

Reservations as a commitment

So when a customer books, I always assume the best, i.e. that the person knows thata booking is a commitment, that the blocked place cannot be taken by someone else and that, at the very least, any lesson booked is due.

Unfortunately, perhaps because of the automated nature of booking platforms, a growing minority of customers cancel at the last minute, at whim. Sometimes the evening before, sometimes an hour before the course.

A small structure, real constraints

Alas, I’m not a computer program, and every summer I have to turn people away because the groups are limited to a maximum of 8 people. What’s more, a course requires a great deal of preparation in terms of planning, equipment and adapting to variations in the ocean environment. This kind of behavior is frowned upon when you’re giving 100% of yourself to offer the best to your trainees.

Beyond the financial loss for the surf school, it deprives another motivated and respectful student of the opportunity to learn to surf. That’s why at Ki Surf School, the few people who cancel at the last minute without a valid reason are not re-enrolled. I redirect them to larger schools that have automated booking systems, numerous surf instructors, and are probably better suited to this type of clientele.

The pedagogy of my small surf school is to lead the student on the path to autonomy and I take great pleasure in teaching people who are enthusiastic and respectful of my work, which represents the vast majority of surfers who pass through my small surf school.

I’d like to thank them for the energy they give me to share and pass on my passion for surfing and the ocean.

Surfer, be your own champion

Surfer, be your own champion

For a surfer in search of excellence, the question arises: must he necessarily follow a competitive path or prioritize the freedom of free surfing?

Trash-Can Skate: the new Hossegor surf trend?

Trash-Can Skate: the new Hossegor surf trend?

In the same way that Laird Hamilton’s experiments in Hawaii have been duplicated in Hossegor – stand-up paddle, foil, electric skates and bikes, jetski towed surfing – so too have Laird Hamilton replicas sprung up in our seaside Landes countryside. There was Fred Compagnon and his alaia-SUP, but more recently and more confidentially, there’s also Miki Dorade and his trash-can skate.
