Since the early days of Ki Surf School, I’ve been looking for the safest, best-performing surfboard, and I’ve found it with Ocean Storm; with the Ninja and Hybrid models, my most advanced students can testify to the pleasure they get from riding them. The pinched rails and shappe allow you to ride any size of wave, just like a good resin board. And with good reason: the foam cover conceals a resin envelope, giving the board rigidity and elasticity!
But first a little history: Hurricane Surf was founded in South Africa in 2001 by brothers Craig and Ryan Butcher. Craig moved to France in 2009 to set up European distribution, and the company is now firmly established in Soorts-Hossegor, with a showroom and surfshop, called Surfboss.
Ocean Storm is a sub-brand of Hurricane Surf, focusing primarily on soft surfboards for surf schools. However, the diversity and quality of the models created quickly made these boards attractive to the general public too.
The best Hurricane surfboards, designed by professional shappers, are chosen for a collaboration with Ocean Storm and reworked: the pro-models retain a resin coating, but are covered with a soft coating and can accommodate any type of daggerboard (in future system).
These boards are perfect for surfers looking for the optimum performance of a hardboard and the safety and buoyancy of a foam board. They’re great fun, and I personally enjoy surfing the 5’6Ninja, with its 36-liter capacity that makes it easy to get into the wave.
