A surf and Taichi school
Seignosse, Hossegor and Capbreton
First, why KI?
Ki is an Asian word meaning energy. This energy circulates everywhere: in the martial arts, in health disciplines, but also in the wave and in the surfer who confronts it. It’s the vital force that drives every movement, links man to nature and drives us forward every day.
Polynesians speak of mana: a power present in nature, transmitted to men who respect it. In Hawaiian lineages, objects charged with mana were passed down from generation to generation – a ritual bow, or an ancestor’s surfboard.
With this in mind, Ki Surf School in Seignosse (Landes) brings together two complementary worlds: surfing and tai chi chuan (taichi). Two disciplines where balance, harmony and connection to the element (land or ocean) are essential.
Surf & Tai Chi in the Landes

Surfing and TaiChi: a shared philosophy
-
Tai chi chuan (or taichi) is a discipline derived from kung fu, in which every movement is aimed at achieving harmony of body and mind. More than just a martial art, it’s a quest for balance and health.
-
Surfing, much more than a sport, is an art of living: a dance of the body with the ocean, a quest for unity with the wave.
At Ki Surf School, these two approaches come together to offer a unique experience in the Landes region: sporty, energetic and sensory learning, open to all.
How do I learn to surf with KI?
Taichi also permeates the way I teach surfing. Rather than a race for profitability, I guide each student towards a conscious practice, by observing each individual’s fine skills:
- advice tailored to each individual’s level and pace.
- the acquisition ofserenity and suppleness in movement.
- work on listening and sensation
- surfing as an experience of well-being, in harmony with the ocean.
Ki Surf: tai chi chuan training
Surfing is a demanding sport: every wave is unique, and every moment demands an immediate, intuitive response. It’s impossible to repeat a movement identically in order to integrate it quickly – progress depends on the ability to adapt.
This is where tai chi chuan (taichi) comes into its own. With Ki Surf, I integrate sequences and movements from taichi into the surfer’s preparation. The aim is to reinforce body control in space and find the right response in the moment.
Surf-specific training inspired by Taichi
At Ki Surf School in Seignosse, the program is based on a number of key principles:
-
Postures and balance exercises.
-
Hip-driven movements.
-
Fluidity in the sequence of movements.
-
Cultivating explosiveness through calmness and suppleness.
-
Precise support work.
-
Development of coordination and attention
These fundamentals, derived from taichi, give surfers a better connection with their body, the ocean and the wave.
