Attention tai chi chuan and Asian martial arts fans!

Master Huang Hua, from Hunan province in China, led a Chen-style tai chi chuan workshop on Sunday February 12 in Seignosse, at the Pôle Sportif Maurice Ravailhe dojo.

The program:

10am-12pm: Harmony in movement, the inner workings of taichi.

2pm-4pm: workshop on the martial art of taichi.

This workshop was also open to beginners and practitioners of other martial arts or styles.

Half-day rate: €35 (€25 for FFKDA licensees)

Day rate: €60 (€40 for FFKDA members)

It’s possible to try the discipline every Monday at 7 p.m., and Wednesdays at 8.30 p.m. for the more experienced, with Taichi Surf Tribe, the association in which I give tai chi chuan classes all year round.

In the same way that Laird Hamilton’s experiments in Hawaii have been duplicated in Hossegor – stand-up paddle, foil, electric skates and bikes, jetski towed surfing – so too have Laird Hamilton replicas sprung up in our seaside Landes countryside. There was Fred Compagnon and his alaia-SUP, but more recently and more confidentially, there’s also Miki Dorade and his trash-can skate.
