Snake and blocker

Surfer A has priority over surfer B. As he paddles out to catch his wave, he moves closer to the edge, leaving a gap into which surfer B moves to claim priority.
To avoid this kind of snaking maneuver, consider the following: the priority surfer signals his intention to use his priority on the approaching wave by rowing. In this way, he or she no longer has to worry about the clever kids lying in ambush on the sides.

On the other hand, if he misses that wave, he loses priority to someone else. How many times have we seen a surfer pretend to start on every wave in the series, catch none of them, and continue to claim priority over the other surfers? They didn’t catch this succession of waves because surfer A was constantly indicating his willingness to go, being a priority surfer to boot, and so those waves that nobody got to ride were wasted. By abusing his position of priority, this surfer blocked the peak for his own benefit, unnecessarily preventing the other surfers.

Why? Because his eyes are bigger than his stomach. Placed too far from the shore, when a big series arrives, surfer A suspects that he won’t be able to start, but he tries anyway – you never know on a misunderstanding – instead of giving a chance to surfers placed more advantageously. Another reason for his failure is that he may have chickened out at the last moment because the wave seemed too hostile. But that doesn’t stop him paddling on to catch the next one.

When the surfer blocks the peak, a circumvention maneuver becomes legitimate to acquire priority in turn, thus avoiding the need to tax and argue later.

In the light of these common-sense rules, it’s a good idea to think carefully before paddling out onto a wave, because while it happens to everyone to miss a wave, it’s best to avoid repeating this mistake too often, as it will annoy and irritate other surfers. At the very least, the surfer paddling onto a wave that he or she is obviously going to miss should tell the surfer further down to catch the wave: “Go on, catch the wave! All too often, the surfer paddles, paddles, paddles, fails at each attempt, remains at the peak in the priority position, as if he were alone in the water, and so on until someone gets annoyed.

2. Water level differences

After a few years of practice, a surfer may find himself to be the best surfer on the spot at any given moment: his knowledge of the environment, the power of his paddle and his technical level enable him to catch every wave if he wants to.

It’s obvious that a good surfer isn’t going to stop himself from going to the peak when the other, weaker or committed surfers are scattered further down the wave where it’s smaller. The peak is the peak, and the surfer’s goal is to ride the wave from start to finish.

Here again, the wave-satisfied surfer can cut some slack and share a few waves, but there are no rules to restrict the good surfer. He’s been through a lot to get to this point, and the beginner who rubs shoulders with good surfers on a perfect peak will get few waves. You have to put yourself in the experienced surfer’s shoes. If he observes a beginner paddling on numerous waves without ever getting started, he’s not going to spend half an hour being polite to him. He’s going to want to catch those waves, and too bad if on the fifteenth one the beginner finally manages to get going.

Here’s a recommendation for beginners who want to surf a perfect spot with lots of people in the water. First, don’t overestimate yourself. If the waves are too hollow for him, he won’t be able to compete with expert surfers. Technically, physically and psychologically, he’ll have too many parameters to manage. It would be wiser for him to continue practicing on easy, less crowded waves.

What’s more, if he feels capable of surfing such conditions, he should adapt his behavior accordingly: when he paddles out to catch a wave, he’ll go all the way and do his take-off, even if it means falling further back. If the best wave of the series arrives, he positions himself in priority, paddles on and misses the wave for lack of oar or courage, the other surfers will hold it against him. Next time, they’ll leave without bothering him, because the bombs of the series are few and far between, so they mustn’t be wasted.

In mild surfing conditions, the slightly delicate surfer will leave waves for the beginner, while another will want to crush him or her with all the power of his or her ego. This is how a mediocre surfer can be heard declaiming: “I had a blast, there were nothing but badgers in the water”. He forgets that he was a beginner too, and that in other circumstances, he himself could become the badger of many surfers much better than him!

The car makes the motorist drunk with himself, execrable and in bad faith, and the same applies to surfing for many individuals. But in either case, we shouldn’t generalize, and the nice, respectful, polite surfer hasn’t disappeared yet!

3. Oversaturation

A perfect spot where the wave constantly rises in the same spot is quickly saturated with people. Tightly packed into a narrow zone, surfers soon find themselves elbow to elbow, one on top of the other. This inevitably leads to danger, tension in the water, competitive behavior and, frankly, disrespect.

When I observe a spot from the shore, I put myself in the place of the surfers already positioned at the peak: if I realize that there are already too many surfers for the number of waves, I avoid joining them. What’s the point of entering the water? I’ll be adding to the already large number of people, adding to the danger and tension, and leaving the water frustrated because I won’t have caught my share of waves or surfed in stressful conditions.

If the surfers continue to congregate in the same place in a seal colony, there’s certainly another, quieter beach, where the waves may be of lesser quality, but they’re also less overcrowded.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

[227,193

post-6126","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-all","category-surf-coaching
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
